B2:    Electronic communication of clinical data: an introduction to HL7

Klaus D Veil is a Research Fellow, University of Ballarat, Chair, HL7 Australia; International representative, HL7 Board member, AHML Board of Management (Australia) and has been involved in medical technology for 25 years. For 7 years he was the CIO of a major Australian health care corporation. As such, the integration of diverse health information systems has been his strong focus.

Klaus's background is medical technology development and economics. He is a Research Fellow to the University of Ballarat and now manages a specialised health IT consultancy.

Klaus is active in the development of medical information technology standards. He is chair of IT14/6/3 - the peak HL7 Standards Committee in Australia. He also serves on the Board of HL7 USA.
