This tutorial will provides an introduction to the use of smart cards for Electronic Patient Records. The major topics covered will include:

• informatical concepts (short summary)
• information construction from data
• information carriers in medicine: text
• curves, images and metacom
• ICT for medical information
• network and/or chip card
• how to structure medical information
• different sections with different reading/writing accessibility for different persons
• the 6 most important sections on a health smart card
• statistical processing of the depersonalised signs and symptoms collected from a catchment area and their presentation by GIS
• organization experiences on introducing an EHCR on Smart Card system including cost containments

The tutorial will be participatory in nature with discussion and questions encouraged throughout.
