A10: Medical concept representation: from classification to understanding
Professor Christopher G Chute MD DrPH is Professor and Head, Medical Informatics, Mayo Foundation (USA). He received his undergraduate and medical training at Brown University, internal medicine residency at Dartmouth and doctoral training in Epidemiology at Harvard. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Medical Informatics. Since 1988, he has been Head of the Section of Medical Information Resources at Mayo Foundation, where he is now Professor of Medical Informatics and Associate Professor of Epidemiology. As a career scientist at Mayo, Dr. Chute’s NIH and AHCPR funded research in medical concept representation, clinical information retrieval, and patient data repositories have been widely published. He co-chairs or chairs the ANSI HISB sub-committee on Clinical Vocabularies, IMIA Working Group 6 on Medical Concept Representation, and the ISO TC 215 WG 3 on Health Terminologies. He previously co-chaired the CPRI WG on Terminology and the National Conference on Clinical Terminologies. Last year, he chaired the AMIA Fall conference.
